Innovative new student housing is opening in Windsor and at the University of British Columbia. In Ontario, the New Beginnings Essex County is opening a dedicated sobriety residence for postsecondary students in recovery or choosing to live a sober lifestyle. New Beginnings has connected with the University of Windsor’s Lancers Recovery Program, which offers students a recovery community, but will be open to students from all universities and colleges in the area. Meanwhile, on the west coast, UBC is opening a new 110-unit faculty and staff rental building called Evolve that will be targeting Passive House certification. The building will feature high performance windows and systems, mixed-mode cooling, and rooftop solar panels that produce enough power to supply the building’s common areas. Evolve will also provide researchers the opportunity to study the costs and benefits of Passive House construction. CBC| UBC Note: Archived stories may contain dead links or be missing source links.
