The University of Waterloo and the Government of Ontario have signed a three-year Collaborative Research Agreement with the goal of strengthening flood preparedness in the province. As a part of the agreement, UWaterloo will use hydrologic modelling tools to inform water management decisions. ON has provided $540K to support UWaterloo in this goal, which builds on a previous agreement that resulted in the creation of several hydrology-related tools for use by municipalities and water managers, among others. “Better models and improved forecasts of floods can give communities more time to prepare and help the province manage its dams to balance competing demands on Ontario’s rivers and lakes,” concluded UWaterloo Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering Professor Bryan Tolson.
