UWaterloo launches IMPACT program to provide support to students in distress

The University of Waterloo, the Canadian Mental Health Association, Waterloo Wellington, and police will be working together on a new wellness program that will see a mental health professional joining police on campus mental health crisis calls. The Integrated Mobile Police and Crisis Team (IMPACT) program was launched at the University of Guelph last fall and has been expanded to UWaterloo to help students receive appropriate mental health care. An IMPACT staffer will be available from Thursday to Sunday each week to provide support to UWaterloo students who are experiencing a mental health crisis. The IMPACT program will run as a pilot program for a year before being subject to review. CBC Note: Archived stories may contain dead links or be missing source links.
