As the popularity of graphic design and computer science cégep programs declines, some faculty members and practicing professionals are placing the blame on AI, according to Radio-Canada. Radio-Canada cites data from both Eastern and Western Québec showing that applications in the first two rounds for graphic design and computer science programs had fallen significantly from 2022 to 2026. Collège Ahuntsic coordonnatrice du Département de graphisme Elsa Myotte noted that while no official data yet lists AI as the cause, a large amount of anecdotal evidence links the two. Despite the decline, Myotte added that if learners can be taught to use AI as a tool over which they retain creative control, AI can offer another dimension to their work.
