Algonquin Students’ Association cuts rugby teams for 2026 due to budget issues

The Algonquin Students’ Association has decided to cut the Algonquin Wolves Varsity Rugby program, due to financial challenges. Student athletes said they had no idea that their team would be suspended and that they heard about the news through a short virtual meeting. Student athlete Emma Khaimovich told City News that the teams and their coaches have been discussing options for reinstating the team. The Algonquin Students’ Association explained to CTV News that “as an organization, the SA remains dedicated to Varsity athletics and supporting our Wolves teams, players, coaches, and fans.”
