Algonquin Tiny Forest takes root

News

Algonquin College’s Ottawa Campus is now the home of a Tiny Forest. This densely-planted collection of native and climate-resistant trees and shrubs will provide a green space on campus for both wildlife and humans to enjoy. “This project is about transforming an existing campus space into a living, growing environment that benefits both our community and the ecosystem around us,” explained Algonquin Custodial and Grounds Operations Supervisor Patricia Thome. The space will be cared for by volunteers, the Indigenous Initiatives office, and environmental programs. It has already provided student volunteers with hands-on experience through site preparation and planting.
