BC introduces legislation, action plan to support prevention, response to sexual violence in PSE

The Government of British Columbia has announced that it is introducing legislation and an action plan to strengthen the postsecondary sector’s prevention and response to sexual violence. The legislation will replace the province’s existing Sexual Violence and Misconduct Policy Act, closing gaps and strengthening institutional responses to sexual violence. The legislation was updated in consultation with students, staff, Indigenous partners, and community organizations, and as part of a larger commitment to a 12-action Post-Secondary Sexual Violence Action Plan. Three of the plan’s actions have already been completed, with the new legislation contributing towards an additional five.
