BC university sports at risk due to international student cap, rising costs

Business in Vancouver (BIV) reports that student athletic programs in British Columbia are at risk due to impacts of the federal international study permit cap. The paper indicates that to remain afloat, some BC university sports programs will have to diversify their revenue sources, including by relying increasingly on business ventures, fundraising efforts, and donor support—as opposed to student fees. These programs are also facing increasing challenges from rising travel costs, equipment expenses, and coaching salaries. BIV writes that the conflation of these challenges may be especially noticeable at smaller BC institutions, which will need to prioritize financial stability to maintain and grow their athletics.
