Brandon University’s Board of Governors has reportedly approved 4% and 6% tuition increases for the 2026–2027 academic year for domestic and international students, respectively. The domestic tuition increase is the maximum increase permitted by the Government of Manitoba. BrandonU VP Administration and Finance Peter Hickey told the Brandon Sun that the increase is necessary given rising costs in the areas of inflation, staffing, maintenance, and program delivery. While Brandon University Students’ Union president Tosin Salau recognized the financial pressures facing the university, he argued that placing the burden on students was not the answer. “Students want to see more investment in education from the government rather than putting more pressure on students to pay more every year,” he said.
