BrandonU to replace Gulliver Astronomical Observatory telescope dome

Brandon University is preparing to replace the dome of its Gulliver Astronomical Observatory telescope. Installed in 1971, the dome now covers a Ritchey-Chrétien model telescope which replaced the former telescope in 2009. The new dome will be weather-sealed, automated, and connected to the internet so it can be remotely operated and so that people can watch its live view online. “This investment will protect valuable equipment while improving safety for staff and visitors, allowing Manitobans to see the stars for years to come,” said MB Advanced Education and Training Minister Renée Cable. The replacement will be funded by an investment from the Government of Manitoba and a donation from the family of BrandonU Astronomy Professor Dr Austin Gulliver.
