Burnaby city council endorses gondola offering transit to SFU

Burnaby’s city council has endorsed the route one option of TransLink’s proposed Burnaby Mountain gondola, which will provide a more environmentally friendly transit option for students commuting to Simon Fraser University. The direct route will have a travel time of six minutes. Over 85% of respondents during two rounds of public engagement expressed support for the project, which is estimated to cost around $210M. SFU President Joy Johnson said that SFU faculty and students are excited about the gondola, and that the university may contribute to the project. “It’s such a good business case,” said Johnson. “We’re over the moon about Burnaby approving the direct route.” Note: Archived stories may contain dead links or be missing source links.
