Canada announces investments in CRCs, new scholars, researchers

The Government of Canada has made a series of announcements related to investments into Canada’s scholars and researchers. In the first announcement, the government announced that it would invest over $139M to support 176 new and renewed Canada Research Chairs (CRCs) across 46 institutions. The other two major investments were made through NSERC, SSHRC, and CIHR. $275M in Canada Graduate Scholarships, fellowships, and foreign study awards have been distributed to support the next generation of research talent as they develop their research skills and networks and pursue research topics that create a better future. The tri-agency also announced new funding for Black scholars: $40.9M over five years and $9.7M ongoing will be used to increase the number of awards for Black scholars in order to address underrepresentation.
