CAUBO, Universities Canada call for policy action to address university financial landscape: Report

Study

The Canadian Association of University Business Officers (CAUBO) and Universities Canada have published a discussion paper calling on governments to address the financial landscape for universities. The report outlines how multiple financial pressures have hampered Canadian universities and the risks these pose to Canada’s ability to develop talent, drive research and innovation, and compete in the global economy. “These pressures are no longer abstract. They are already affecting capacity across the system — from workforce development to research and infrastructure,” asserts CAUBO Executive Director Nathalie LaPorte. The report outlines several recommendations for government, including targeted tax rebates for universities and improved coordination and predictability across talent, skills, and immigration policy.
