Cégep de Drummondville and Cégep de Victoriaville’s planned joint battery technology school has been cancelled, according to the Journal de Montréal. Cégep de Drummondville directeur general Pierre Leblanc told the Journal that the project in Bécancour has been paused since 2025 and will not be proceeding. The school was initially slated to open in 2027 and would host 300 students, but global changes have resulted in a reduction in the projected number of battery sector jobs to be created in the province. Leblanc said that while the institutions will return a large portion of the allocated funding to the provincial government, the project could one day be revived if sufficient industry demand exists.
