The Government of Québec’s Ministère de l’Enseignement supérieur recently expressed concern to cégeps about AI use in the province’s uniform French exams, according to a letter obtained by La Presse. The ministry said that it had uncovered an increase in elements that suggested the use of AI to complete the tests. However, after cégep administrators contacted officials, QC reportedly acknowledged an error in its initial assessment and asked educational institutes to intervene with students locally. Fédération des cégeps CEO Marie Montpetit stated that the confusion resulted in many students being unfairly accused. QC is currently working with cégeps to allow for submissions of qualitative evidence in the plagiarism cases, adding that a joint committee will convene shortly to establish processes to combat AI-related plagiarism.
