Construction starts on UBC’s Recreation Centre North

Construction has begun on a $67.5M recreation centre at the University of British Columbia. Recreation Centre North will be a four-storey, state-of-the-art recreation centre that will triple the available fitness and recreation space at the university. It will include three gyms; a universal change area; and a fitness and studio space that includes a weight and cardio fitness gym, training area, and 200-metre indoor track. The building will be seamlessly integrated with UBC’s Life and Student Services Hub and will meet LEED Gold and Rick Hansen Foundation Accessibility Certification standards. “The new facility not only supports students’ fitness and well-being goals, but it also provides them with a space to prioritize their mental and physical health while they are pursuing their academic achievements,” said UBC Athletics and Recreation Managing Director Kavie Toor.
