The Center for World University Rankings (CWUR) has released its Global 2000 rankings, and several Canadian universities have appeared in the rankings. CWUR scores universities in the areas of education, alumni employment outcomes, faculty, and research. Four Canadian universities made the top 100: The University of Toronto (#23), McGill University (#27), the University of British Columbia (#48), and the University of Alberta (#81). CTV News reports that of the 38 ranked Canadian universities, all but one (U of T) had fallen in their rankings since 2025. CWUR President Dr Nadim Mahassen told CTV News that the fall in rankings was attributable to “years of inadequate funding, and the devaluation of science and education as public goods,” calling the problem “not just an academic problem but a national one.”
