Durham College has partnered with Trees for Life and the Alzheimer Society of Ontario to create a Memory Forest. Through this project, a section of the Whitby campus will be developed into a green space with native trees. It will be designed to be accessible for those with dementia, their caregivers, and the broader community, and will include accessible pathways, high-contrast wayfinding, tactile features, sensory plantings, and gathering areas. “The Memory Forest is a great example of how partnerships can create opportunities for DC and the broader community,” said Durham President Dr Elaine Popp. The project will be completed with support from the Barrett Family Foundation.
