Ensuring applications stand out when applying for an academic library job: Opinion

Academic library job applicants can use a variety of techniques to ensure that their applications stand out, writes Lindsay Hansen Brown. Brown recommends that applicants read the job ad in its entirety, ensure they meet all the required qualifications, and describe how they meet these qualifications on their CV. CVs should also include an explanation of how the applicant meets any additional or preferred qualifications, and demonstrate that the applicant understands the institution’s unique needs and student body. Applicants should prepare for a phone interview by considering questions the interviewer is likely to ask and preparing their own set of questions for the interviewer ahead of time.
