Institutions across Canada are hosting events and reflection opportunities in honour of Indigenous Veterans Day and Remembrance Day. Institutions such as Centennial College, First Nations University of Canada, the University of Guelph, and the University of Toronto held or are holding ceremonies or services on campus. The Hadiya’dagénhahs First Nations, Métis and Inuit Student Centre at Brock University held beaded poppy-making workshops last week, while Red River College Polytechnic’s Indigenous Student Support Center gave staff and students commemorative pins to commemorate the contributions of Indigenous Veterans. Emily Carr University published a reflection discussing the ECU alumni who served as war artists and the art they created. At the University of Saskatchewan, an installation of poppies grown by horticulture student and Canadian Armed Forces member Corporal Fikret Ükis is being displayed in the College of Agriculture and Bioresources Atrium.
