Laurentian University has announced that it is suspending admissions to four programs: criminal justice; criminology; interdisciplinary studies; and equity, diversity, and human rights. Laurentian Interim Provost Alain Simard told CBC that he suspects that the issue stems from decisions made during the institution’s insolvency filing, where the four majors—originally part of programs that were cut—became standalone programs without the approval of the Ontario Universities Council on Quality Assurance. Alain added that those admitted since Fall 2026 will remain enrolled and that the university hopes to regain approval for these programs in time for Fall 2027 admissions. Laurentian will also be unable to submit new programs for approval until it resolves issues related to learning outcomes and program reviews by the OUCQA.
