McGill, Memorial, YorkU partner with community, industry on climate-focused initiatives

News

Postsecondary institutions such as McGill University, Memorial University, and York University are currently pursuing initiatives related to climate change with industry and community partners. McGill researchers worked with the University of California, Los Angeles and Princeton University to identify a sustainable alternative to air conditioning that uses roof materials that radiate heat combined with ventilation. Memorial’s Harris Centre is working with econext and CLIMAtlantic to facilitate climate adaptation workshops. At these workshops, the partners help communities across Newfoundland & Labrador to understand the impact of climate change on their specific region and connect with relevant resources and information. At YorkU, the university’s C4: Cross-Campus Capstone Classroom program, international firm GHD, and the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority have partnered to offer 70 undergraduate students the opportunity to work on multidisciplinary projects focused on overcoming climate anxiety.
