McGill University redevelopment plans move forward with key changes recommended

The Office de consultation publique de Montréal (OCPM) has recommended that McGill University’s $700M redevelopment plans for part of the former Royal Victoria Hospital move forward with key changes. OCPM has released a report outlining 31 recommendations for the redevelopment, including that natural space north of the hospital be relinquished and integrated with Mount Royal Park and that the city continue to be allowed to use the Royal Vic as a temporary homeless shelter until downtown shelters are able to meet the demand. OCPM also emphasized that claims of unmarked graves of Indigenous children and potential Iroquois archeological remains on the site must be investigated, that the process should be made public, and that the possible presence of burials be treated respectfully.
