Memorial gains five family medicine residency spots, NL commits to increasing health graduates

Memorial University will be adding five family medicine residency spots in an effort to encourage Canadians who have graduated from international medical schools to complete their residencies in Newfoundland and Labrador and stay in the province. The residencies will be added in 2023, and will focus on addressing the current challenges with physician recruitment and retention which are particularly prevalent in rural and remote areas. CBC reports that NL has also made a commitment to increase the number of faculty of medicine spots for NL undergraduate students by five and to increase the number of licensed practical nursing and personal care attendant graduates.
