MtA launches Mountie Meals to tackle student food insecurity

News

Mount Allison University has launched an initiative where alumni and community members can provide hot and nutritious meals to students on campus. Through Mountie Meals, donors can send funds directly to eligible students’ university ID cards, enabling the recipients to purchase meals at on-campus food services. Mountie Meals is meant to complement MtA’s existing student wellness services and provide an alternative for students who may be hesitant to visit an in-person food bank service. “Unfortunately, there can be a lot of stigma and feelings of embarrassment when someone first asks for help,” said MtA Student Wellness Social Worker Darcy Cormier. “I’m happy that Mountie Meals is one more way our students can access help.”
