New study recommends free postsecondary education for QC

A recent study from the Institut de recherche et d’informations socioéconomiques claims that free postsecondary education is viable and beneficial for Quebec, report Journal de Montréal and CTV News. The researchers state that free education would represent less than 0.009% of the total spending in QC’s budget. Study co-author Samuel Élie-Lesage said that free tuition would encourage students who are less affluent to pursue education without fear of debt. The researchers found that students may also choose the highest income jobs as a means to pay their debts regardless of social utility. Researchers also drew from free and low tuition education models in countries such as France, Sweden, and Brazil.
