New study shows trends in funding for Canadian colleges, institutions

Study

Statistics Canada has released a new study examining trends in private and public funding for Canadian colleges, polytechnics, cegeps, and institutes between 2008/2009 and 2019/2020. The data shows that revenues have remained stable since 2008/2009, with an average increase of 1.8% each year. However, the make-up of institutional income has shifted: Public funding declined steadily from 67% in 2008/2009 to 54.7% in 2019/2020, while revenue from student fees increased from 19.6% in 2008/2009 to 34.1% in 2019/2020. This increase in student fee revenue was mainly driven by an increase in international students. StatCan Note: Archived stories may contain dead links or be missing source links.
