NLC, VIU carpentry students practice construction process while helping others

Carpentry students at Northern Lights College and Vancouver Island University are putting their skills to work to help others. At NLC, carpentry students are building dog houses for the SPCA to provide to those who may not have the resources to give their dogs shelter. The dog houses provide fourth-year students with an opportunity to practice a variety of building skills, such as different roof styles and custom framing. VIU’s carpentry program has partnered with Nanaimo Community Hospice and the Canadian Home Builders’ Association – Vancouver Island to build a home that will be raffled off with proceeds going to support the Nanaimo Hospice’s eventual new facility. Carpentry students will be involved in various stages of the construction. VIU| CJDC TV (NLC) Note: Archived stories may contain dead links or be missing source links.
