Northern College’s Training Division and Agnico Eagle Mines Limited have partnered on a $4.58M project that will provide free skills training related to the mining sector. The project will cover a variety of related topics, including career readiness, trades pre-apprenticeships, underground mining, diamond drilling, mineral processing, and environmental monitoring. The programs will be offered throughout Northern Ontario, and up to 146 people will receive training. Additional funding may be available to remove barriers related to childcare, travel, and accommodations. “Finding innovative approaches to education is one of the main commitments of Northern College,” said Northern President Dr Audrey J Penner. “Additionally, many programs include post-secondary credits, supporting [the] trainee’s pathways to further their education.” Northern Note: Archived stories may contain dead links or be missing source links.
