ON postsecondary institutions, police brace for St Patrick’s Day

With St Patrick’s Day approaching, several postsecondary institutions and municipalities in Ontario are taking steps to prevent the day’s celebrations from becoming too dangerous or disruptive. Brock University, McMaster University and the University of Guelph were among the institutions that issued statements encouraging their students to be safe and responsible; UoGuelph will also host a Campus Alcohol Recovery Room available for students who over-consume alcohol. Meanwhile, emergency services and community partners in the City of Guelph, City of London, and City of Waterloo are planning to deploy more resources on the day. Waterloo’s regional police have secured a court injunction that would enable them to criminally charge students and others who host a “nuisance house party.”
