Valery Fabrikant, the perpetrator of the Concordia University massacre in 1992 and a former associate professor at the institution, has reportedly died in prison of apparent natural causes. Fabrikant was an associate professor of mechanical engineering at Concordia at the time of the shooting. La Presse reports that four other engineering professors—Aaron Jaan Saber, Matthew McCartney Douglass, Michael Gorden Hogben and Phoivos Ziogas—were killed and secretary Elizabeth Horwood was injured. Fabrikant was convicted of murder and sentenced to life imprisonment in 1993; his subsequent applications for parole were denied.
