RRC Polytech, MB partner on ASL training for Indigenous women

Red River College Polytechnic and the Government of Manitoba have partnered to support American Sign Language (ASL) training for Indigenous women. MB will fund seats in RRC Polytech’s ASL-English Interpretation program for the next three years for Indigenous women. In addition, RRC Polytech will develop and deliver three ASL micro-credentials on reserve, which will also serve as a prerequisite for the polytechnic’s ASL-English Interpretation program. RRC Polytech President Fred Meier explained that the initiatives will serve to “remove barriers, strengthen representation in the profession, and build capacity to support Deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals in Indigenous communities across Manitoba.”
