The Southern Alberta Institute of Technology and the Calgary Construction Association have partnered to bring the Tailgate Toolkit, a mental-health toolkit, to Alberta in order to destigmatize conversations about mental health and addiction on jobsites in Alberta. CCA President Bill Black explained that the toolkit is based on the premise of a tailgate talk, which is a conversation at the start of each workday that is focused on hazards, work, and what people have learned. SAIT School of Construction Dean Jim Szautner explained that having students and apprentices encounter the resource now will ensure they are prepared both academically and psychologically for the workforce.
