ShanghaiRanking has released its Global Ranking of Academic Subjects 2025, which assesses institutions from around the world according to 57 subjects across five broad disciplines. Canadian institutions that appeared in the top 25 for at least one subject included McGill University, Simon Fraser University, Université de Montréal, the University of British Columbia, the University of Alberta, the University of Guelph, the University of Ottawa, the University of Toronto, the University of Waterloo, and Western University. The Canadian postsecondary system’s strongest appearance was in the field of AI, where three institutions appeared in the top 10: U of T (#3), UAlberta (#5), and UMontréal (#9).
