Saint Mary’s University has announced that it has achieved its greenhouse gas reduction goals three years ahead of schedule. SMU originally planned to reduce its greenhouse gasses by 40% by 2025, but exceeded this goal by taking on projects such as installing a high-efficiency hot water plant, switching to natural gas heating, and installing more efficient lighting. “We are exceeding our emissions reduction goal, and with innovative projects such as North America’s tallest solar-integrated building Saint Mary’s is taking a leadership role in the post-secondary sector towards a more sustainable future,” said SMU Senior Director of Facilities Management Dennis Gillis.
