UAlberta, CSMC partner on research microreactor

News

The University of Alberta has announced that it will host a $10M prototype nuclear reactor commissioned by defence company Canadian Strategic Missions Corporation (CSMC). The simulation reactor will be used for research and teaching and will be able to produce electricity and steam without the use of uranium. CSMC announced that $5M of the project’s funding will be provided by the Government of Alberta. “A new research reactor with the University of Alberta will be a key foundational block on which not only we, but the entire nuclear energy industry in Alberta, can build,” explained CSMC CEO Daniel Sax. In addition to the planned reactor, UAlberta has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with CSMC to collaborate on nuclear research.
