UManitoba to review communications protocols following reports of armed man on campus

The University of Manitoba will review its communications protocols after some students raised concerns about the institution’s response to reports of an armed individual on campus earlier this week. UManitoba and the Winnipeg Police Service worked together to address the situation on Tuesday, cancelling classes and notifying students. While the issue was resolved, some students told City News that they were disappointed with the speed of communication from the university. “We are aware of concerns that information was not shared quickly enough,” read a statement from UManitoba President Michael Benarroch and Provost Diane Hiebert-Murphy. “As with any event of this nature, we will review the effectiveness and efficiency of our relevant protocols to ensure our processes align with our commitment to a safe and supportive environment.”
