UMontreal initiative supports emergency rooms while providing students with enhanced learning opportunities

An initiative at the Université de Montréal is helping to address high demand for medical attention in the emergency rooms in Laval while giving students a unique learning opportunity. Patients with non-urgent health needs are being offered the opportunity to be treated at the Laval simulation centre by specialized nurse practitioners and nurse clinicians. This will increase and expedite access to care for patients while providing nursing students with the opportunity to observe the treatments. The university also hopes that the centre will provide a training environment that attracts more people to the nursing profession.
