UoGuelph considering opening law school

News

The University of Guelph is reportedly considering opening a law school, as a program development group is actively developing the law school curriculum. The school, which would open in 2028 at the earliest, would address a need for additional law school spaces to increase access to justice for people in underserved communities in Ontario. The program would build on UoGuelph’s areas of strength, including its criminal justice and public policy program. “The university sees a tremendous opportunity to transform legal education in Ontario,” said UoGuelph Interim Provost and VP (Academic) Byron Sheldrick. “A law school at the University of Guelph would address several important needs in Ontario, including expanding opportunities for Canadians who currently pursue legal education abroad.”
