UPEIFA accuses PEI of interference, secures funding from CAUT for legal challenge

The University of Prince Edward Island Faculty Association (UPEIFA) has reportedly accused the Government of Prince Edward Island of interfering in contract negotiations between the association and the university. The association and University of Prince Edward Island have been in negotiations since April and filed for conciliation in August. However, a UPEIFA release asserts that the provincial government has repeatedly extended the conciliation past the 10-day legislated timeline, with the process entering its fourth month with “no end in sight.” UPEIFA has reportedly secured funding from the Canadian Association of University Teachers (CAUT) for a legal challenge against what it describes as the province’s “unprecedented interference in collective bargaining.” UPEIFA| CBC Note: Archived stories may contain dead links or be missing source links.
