UWaterloo alum invests $1M in professorship in responsible AI research

University of Waterloo alumnus Albert (Feng) Yang has donated $1M to launch the Yang Family Professorship in honour of his PhD supervisor UWaterloo Distinguished Professor Emeritus Dr Andrew Wong. The professorship will focus on responsible AI innovation with real-world impact and may span multiple domains including robotics, health care, and manufacturing. Wong, who is the inaugural holder of the professorship, will use the support to continue his work in pattern discovery and disentanglement. “The research foundation is set,” explained Wong. “What this support allows us to do is build on this foundation and evaluate how broadly our work can be applied.”
