UWindsor creates Black Studies Institute

The University of Windsor has announced that it will be creating the Black Studies Institute. The institute will launch in Fall 2023 as a hub for research and innovation. “We have created an institute to think about, to write about, to publish, and to have a conversation around the ways that Blackness works not just in Windsor-Essex, but in the Americas,” said UWindsor Associate Professor and Black Studies Institute Founding Director Natalie Delia Deckard. “Windsor is reclaiming its institutional heritage as a place that is really important for Black diaspora populations.” The institute will highlight Black excellence; enhance the student experience; ensure innovation in teaching and learning; support research excellence and impact; and host special events, speaker series, and mentorships.
