Ways that online programs can support workplace readiness: Opinion

In a recent article for EdTech, Evan Kropp (University of Florida) discusses holistic and intentional ways that online programs can support workplace readiness. The author recommends designing curricula with career readiness in mind, specifically by including applied projects and presentations, allowing revisions to work, and providing in-person experiential learning opportunities. Career services should also be more accessible and visible. Kropp concludes by describing how stronger connections between institutions and employers can help students gain access to professional environments without travelling. “Online students deserve the same opportunities to develop and demonstrate those skills and abilities as any other student, and while the methods may look different, the standards should be the same,” concludes Kropp.
