WLU investigating after Jewish prayer scrolls smashed in residence

Wilfrid Laurier University’s Special Constable Service is investigating after two Jewish prayer scrolls (mezuzahs) were smashed at one of the university’s residences. In a statement to CBC News, WLU condemned the incident, emphasizing its zero-tolerance policy towards hate and harassment. In response to the incident, Waterloo Rohr Chabad Centre for Jewish Life Rabbi Moshe Goldman, WLU Dean of Students Adam Lawrence, and WLU students attended the residence and attached new scrolls to residents’ doors. Goldman said that more than 50 students have requested their own mezuzahs in the days since the incident, with an anonymous family donating $3,600 towards their purchase.
