École nationale d’administration publique recently celebrated the inauguration of its new campus in downtown Gatineau. The campus will serve as a hub for training, higher education, research, and consulting services. Université du Québec network President Alexandre Cloutier asserted that the campus will help to fulfill ENAP’s mission of training public managers in French to design and implement the policies that the province needs. In comments to Le Droit, Government of Québec higher education minister Martine Biron stated that this new campus—supported by a $2.2M investment over five years—fills a gap and will enable ENAP to establish its presence near Canada’s capital city.

International Business University has opened a new campus on Bay Street in Toronto. The campus will integrate business education, industry partnership, and skills development to prepare students to meet employer demand. The opening ceremony included a tour of the new campus, a ceremonial ribbon cutting, and a networking reception. “Today marks an exciting milestone as we officially open IBU’s new Toronto campus,” said IBU President Dr Asima Vezina. “Toronto is an extraordinary hub of innovation, talent, and economic activity, and we are proud to be part of this vibrant ecosystem.”

The University of Calgary’s Institute for Quantum Science and Technology (IQST) has officially joined the Quantum Co-laboratory network. The network, which is entering its second five-year term, also includes the University of British Columbia’s Blusson Quantum Matter Institute, Université de Sherbrooke’s Institut quantique, and University of Waterloo’s Institute for Quantum Computing. As a member of the network, UCalgary will connect its quantum research ecosystem to those of other Canadian institutions. “Through this partnership, IQST’s multidisciplinary team of researchers will collaborate with other nationally recognized scientists to drive research advancements, training opportunities and knowledge sharing,” said UCalgary Professor Dr Paul Barclay.

Five Canadian universities—Brock University, Royal Roads University, Simon Fraser University, the University of British Columbia, and the University of Guelph—have signed MOUs with Jindal Global University in India. The MOUs provide a framework for collaborative activities that include student and faculty exchanges, academic resource sharing, and joint research opportunities. “As global challenges become more complex, universities around the world should come together to share knowledge and create opportunities for learners and researchers,” said Royal Roads President Philip Steenkamp.

In an article for the Toronto Star, Marsha Barber (Toronto Metropolitan University) reflects on the Government of Ontario’s changes to the Ontario Student Assistance Program and tuition and the potential impact on students in precarious positions. Barber describes her own path to independence at a young age, and how a full scholarship offered her access to life-changing education. Increasing tuition, writes the author, most affects students who do not have financial help. Barber calls the changes to the system a “conundrum,” as it provides universities and colleges with stable funding, but at the cost of students.

Dalhousie University has launched an online, course-based Master of Clinical Psychiatry and Global Mental Health. This program is offered in a part-time format, giving care providers from around the world the opportunity to learn while remaining in their communities. The program is designed to prepare participants to work in a variety of health-care contexts using a culturally responsive curriculum. “The program centers people by placing patients, learners, and communities at the heart of the curriculum,” said Dal Assistant Professor Dr Margaret (Leigh) Meldrum. “We’ve intentionally created a space where clinical excellence, reflection, and global perspective coexist.”

Capilano University has signed an MOU with Squamish Public Library to strengthen learning in the Sea-to-Sky corridor. This partnership outlines joint goals related to expanding educational pathways for all ages and supporting community-focused learning opportunities and events. These include exploration of shared programming, coordinated use of space, joint outreach, and collaboration on funding and marketing. It will also provide students with access to public library services. “By working together, we are expanding access to meaningful programming, celebrating local culture and knowledge, and supporting the diverse educational needs of our community,” said CapU Squamish AVP Brian Storey.

McGill University’s Dobson Centre for Entrepreneurship and the M&A Club of Canada—a membership-based network dedicated to mergers and acquisitions—have partnered to launch an acquisition-based entrepreneurship program. M&A states that entrepreneurship through acquisition (ETA) is traditionally taught within MBA programs, but this program will offer ETA training outside of a formal degree framework to expand access to it and to equip the next generation of business owners. The program will consist of two phases: an ETA Training Program phase where participants will develop the skills and knowledge they need to pursue acquisition opportunities, and an ETA Lab phase where learners will take part in a practice-driven lab.

Government of Ontario Premier Doug Ford defended his recent changes to postsecondary tuition and the Ontario Student Assistance Program this week following “thousands” of calls from students over the weekend. Ford explained that keeping tuition frozen was no longer sustainable, and that pressure from institutions ultimately led him to unfreeze it. Speaking on changes that increased the proportion of OSAP loans relative to grants, Ford said: “I’m always saying we have the brightest and best students and best colleges and universities in the world, but when you’re in the hole $2.5B [the previous grant allocation] wasn’t realistic.”

The Montréal Alouettes Canadian Football League team has announced that it is replacing its in-house dance team with the Université de Montréal Carabins cheerleaders. CTV News reports that the CFL team is not making the move for budgetary reasons, but rather as part of a broader effort to reconnect with the community and grassroots football in Québec. “We want to help develop the sport of cheerleading, and we think this gives [UMontréal Carabins cheerleaders] a great platform and a great opportunity to do so,” said Alouettes Director of Communications Joey Alfieri.
