Red River College Polytechnic has welcomed students to its new South Winnipeg Campus, after absorbing the Manitoba Institute of Trades and Technology’s programs and facilities earlier this year. Despite the change in operators, RRC Polytech spokesperson Lauren Parsons noted that the MITT signs at the South Winnipeg Campus will remain while MITT students are finishing their programs. RRC Polytech President Fred Meier explained that many positions at the campus were filled by former MITT employees or instructors. Meier also said that RRC Polytech intends to work with local school boards next fall to fill the gap created by the loss of MITT’s tuition-free vocational and technical programming for teens.

Holland College has signed onto the RBC Community Solar Program, a newly announced program that enables community organizations to implement solar energy projects. Through this project, two solar installations will be installed at Holland College’s Prince of Wales Campus and Atlantic Police Academy. These projects are anticipated to generate 214.5 kilowatts of installed capacity. “These installations represent an important investment in campus infrastructure in Charlottetown and Summerside and will deliver long-term operational benefits for the College,” said Holland College President Natalie Mitton. “This partnership with RBC is both an investment in sustainability and in the students who will help build a stronger future for our communities.”

The Vancouver Institute of Media Arts has announced that it has closed its Terminal Avenue campus after 31 years of operation as a private postsecondary institute. The institute’s name and legacy will continue through Vancouver Community College’s Continuing Studies department, which will offer VanArts’ 2D Character Animation and 3D Character Animation program. VanArts says that with this transition, students will be able to benefit from the resources and opportunities of a public postsecondary institution. “To everyone who has been part of VanArts over the past 31 years — students, alumni, instructors, staff, industry partners and friends — thank you,” said the institute in a statement.

Several former Algonquin College esthetics educators have come together to continue offering beauty and wellness education through the creation of a new college: The White Pearl College of Advanced Beauty and Wellness. The college was founded by Mariève Siracusa and includes several faculty members who previously served in key roles in Algonquin’s former Esthetics program. The college will initially offer part-time certificate programs for professionals before launching its full-time Esthetics Diploma Program in January 2027. Siracusa said that she founded the college to continue to provide students with beauty and wellness education following the closure of Algonquin’s full-time Esthetics program.

Memorial University will begin offering students additional mathematics support this Fall thanks to a $1.9M investment from the Hibernia Project. The new initiative will support students who are transitioning from high school to university mathematics, with a goal of improving student success and ensuring that mathematics is not a barrier to degree completion. It will include supports such as small-group tutorials and review sessions in the upcoming semester, with plans to add additional supports such as summer bridging programs and pre-semester boot camps in the future.

MaKami College has launched its new Educational Assistant Certificate program at its Edmonton and Calgary campuses. The program is one year in duration and is offered in a blended-HyFlex format to allow learners to learn in a format that meets their needs. Students are also provided with three work-integrated learning courses and 225 hours of practicum experience. The college says that it launched the program in response to the strong demand for educational assistants within Alberta.

The College of New Caledonia is launching an Entrepreneur Mentorship Program this fall to connect students with business leaders. The program will include practical learning opportunities, one-on-one mentorship, and industry engagement to prepare students for successful careers or entrepreneurial ventures. “Learning is most powerful when students have opportunities to connect what they are studying in the classroom with the experiences and perspectives of people working in their field,” said CNC VP Academic Dr Bruce McKay.

The Journal de Québec reports that the Société de transports de Lévis buses have been overcrowded since the start of the academic year, in part due to a major parking policy change at Cégep de Lévis. The cégep, which has reportedly experienced a sharp increase to its student population, limited parking permit applications to students from more remote areas. This in turn saw many students who previously would have driven to campus turning to public transport. The bus service stated that it is currently monitoring ridership and punctuality data and considering several operational measures to respond to the situation.

Collège communautaire du Nouveau-Brunswick has added a new large-format robotic additive manufacturing platform to the college’s advanced materials centre. This manufacturing platform is developed around an industrial robot that will allow the college to manufacture large-scale parts and prototypes, 3D printing them and then machining them within the same system. INNOV received support from Rapid Fusion in integrating, installing, and commissioning the new infrastructure. This project is funded by a $500K investment from the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency and ResearchNB.

LaSalle College students, staff, and union representatives recently gathered to protest the Government of Québec. The one-day protest reportedly focused on the provincial Anglo admission cap and what protesters described as unfair treatment of the college. The Suburban spoke with several students who explained that they are afraid the college will be forced to close. “We really don’t want this to happen, because we invested our money, our time, and we are basically caught in the middle,” said student Vitorei Garcei Pinheiro.
