The British Columbia Assembly of First Nations (BCAFN) is calling on universities in British Columbia to prohibit OneBC demonstrations on their campuses. BCAFN stated that these demonstrations have happened at Thompson Rivers University, the University of British Columbia, the University of the Fraser Valley, and the University of Victoria. They explained that these demonstrations “undermine and diminish the impacts of residential schools and the lived experiences of First Nations in BC.” The organization is calling on all universities to ban these demonstrations to ensure that campuses remain safe for Indigenous students and to stand with residential school survivors.
