Canadore College has announced that it will be closing its West Parry Sound campus and laying off employees in response to financial pressures. Canadore President Sandra Efu claimed that while the college’s voluntary retirement packages lessened the financial strain faced by the college, further workforce reductions are required. “These are not decisions we make lightly,” said Efu. “They are necessary to ensure we are focusing our resources where they can have the greatest impact and to ensure Canadore remains strong, sustainable, and responsive to student and labour market needs into the future.” The college says that students at the West Parry Sound campus will be supported through graduation and will be able to complete their programs at the campus.
