HEQCO publishes case study on how Hamilton is supporting international graduates

News

The Higher Education Quality Council of Ontario has published a case study on a City of Hamilton initiative to support international students as they transition into the labour market. After the Canadian Bureau for International Education discovered that international students faced several challenges in the local job market, Hamilton, its postsecondary institutions, and community organizations responded with the launch of a variety of supports. These included co-op and experiential learning programs, mentorship and networking events, and large-scale job fairs. The city is also developing a pilot program called the Hamilton Workforce Ready pilot program that will streamline career services and targeted supports for international graduates. HEQCO states that this collaborative approach serves as a transferrable model for smaller and northern communities.
