More needs to be done to support students with learning disabilities, writes University of British Columbia student Cúán Isamu Schofield for the Toronto Star. Schofield describes his experience navigating the education system as someone with dysgraphia, a learning disability that affects handwriting. He outlines the challenges with attending higher ed at a time when professors are increasingly assigning in-class, handwritten assignments in response to AI, as well as the difficulties he had with the formal accommodation process. Schofield concludes by noting that many students, particularly those from low-income families, would be unable to successfully navigate this system.
